Cars manufactured from Germany are considered as some of the best cars in the league. All of us know that the cars made by Germans are a dream of every car enthusiast. So, here we are, with one of the most amazing cars manufactured by a German company namely Apollo Automobil. The headquarters of the company lies in the city of Denkendorf. It is a supercar, founded by Roland Gumpert, who was earlier positioned in one of the most known company of cars, Audi. The founder managed the Audi company so well, that it was able to grab a total of 25 world rally Championships and four World rally championship titles.
It so happened that in the year 2001, Roland Gumpert forwarded his proposition about manufacturing a car that is a sports car as well as streetcar and that too, a legal one. Then in the year 2001 itself, Gumpert returned to Germany from China and was asked to assist on a prototype of a sports car by Ronald Meyer. Then the Audi Company gave him the permission to work along with Ronald Meyer, but on one condition. The condition was that he will manufacture a sports car that will be a series car and not a prototype.
Eventually, in the year 2004, a Company came into existence known as GMG Sportwagenmanufaktur Altenburg GmbH. Then Marco Vanetta came up with the first designs of the car. Further, the technical specifications were given out for the Company. Once Marco Vanetta was done with his designs, the first 1:4 scale model of the car came out in the year 2002.
Side by side Gumpert was progressing on the development of Apollo. The Technical University of Munich and the Ingolstadt University of Applied Sciences was helping him out in the manufacturing process of the car Apollo. They were keeping an eye on the construction work, computer simulations, and wind tunnel tests. With the involvement of some of the best brains in the industry, a blueprint was formed. Eventually, they came up with the two prototypes of the Apollo car. Finally, the production of the car Apollo started in the October of 2005.
In the July of the year 2008, Apollo Sport was featured in one of the most famous UK show Top Gear. The car was driven by Richard Hammond and the Stig. The recorded lap time was 1.17.1 and Apollo came up on the top position of the Power Lap board. The car was able to defeat Bugatti Veyron and Pagani Zonda. It came to be known as the lap leader, beating Ascari A10 with 0.2 seconds. However, in the later times, Apollo was beaten by Bugatti Veyron Super Sport, by the recorded time of 01:16:8.
In the August of the year 2013, the downfall of the company started. The company filed for bankruptcy. Further, it went for the liquidation. This happened because of an anonymous backer who ditched the company in the deal, which could have saved the company from bankruptcy. Finally, in the year 2016, in January, the Ideal Team Venture, from Hong Kong purchased the company. They were the owners of the De Tomaso Marque. Once the company was bought by Ideal Team Venture, they came up with the idea of renaming the car to Apollo Automobil Gmbh.
Finally, when Geneva Motor Show happened in the year 2016, Apollo showcased Arrow, the hypercar to the world. And then came the doomsday. In the November of 2016, Ronald Gumpert it was announced that Ronald Gumpert was no longer a part of the company.
Apollo’s first debut on the racing track was in the year 2005, which was driven by a Belgian racer Ruben Maes in the Divinol Cup. He bagged the third position on the track. However, in the year 2008, Gumpert officially announced that he has ideas for launching hybrid electric version of the car. Three months after the announcement was made, the finished model of a hybrid electric version of the car was driven in 24 hours.
The hybrid version of the car came up with some pretty amazing features. The Apollo can go up to the speed of 630 hp and was coupled with the engine of 3.3 liters, V8 version. The engine was a bi-turbo engine and was clubbed in with a 100 kW electric motor. The essence of the car was its ability to recharge the battery under the braking.
This one car took everyone's breath away. Commendable features and the design and structure made it a top-notch model. Every car enthusiast dreams about driving this car and experience the unbeatable thrill of a wonder car.
