Second Generation (1974 – 1978)
In the year 1974, a completely revised and new Mustang, based on the Pinto platform was introduced by the company. This vehicle was named Mustang II and this platform stayed the same till 1978. This vehicle was more fuel efficient and this helped in increasing the interest of the buyers as well as the sales for the company. More than 385000 units were sold in the first year itself. The second generation Mustangs were available in coupe and hatchback options only. Its engine was a 140 cubic inch, 4 cylinder engines, giving a power of 88 hp only. To meet the customer demands, certain luxury features like vinyl roof cover, etc., were added to the vehicle. This vehicle received mixed reviews.
